The wood: Solid monkeypod — Samanea saman, of the Fabaceae (bean) family. Sold in the US as acacia, known in Thailand as Mai Jumjaree, and elsewhere as rain tree or koa. Kiln-dried, hand-carved by Haussmann's artisans in Thailand, with zero chemical treatment.
