Frequently asked questions
What makes each Haussmann piece one of a kind?
Every piece is hand-carved from a single piece of solid wood, so the grain, knots, and natural checks are unique to your table. Yours won't look exactly like the photo — that's the mark of a real, handmade original, not a reproduction.
Are the cracks and knots defects?
No. Fine checks (surface cracks), knots, and inclusions are natural to solid tropical hardwood dried the traditional way. They're left in view as the signature of genuine solid wood and don't affect the strength. Where a check is filled, we fill it with like wood so nothing is wasted.
What wood is it, and how is it finished?
Solid wood — primarily rain tree (also called monkeypod or acacia). It isn't bleached or chemically treated; we hand-rub natural, plant-based oils into the grain. The oils are translucent, so the wood's own color and swirl show through with a warm, low-sheen finish.
Where and how is it made?
Hand-carved to order in Thailand at our family workshop, Kammika Import Export Co., Ltd., then shipped direct to our warehouse in Solon Springs, Wisconsin. Haussmann has been making furniture since 2000 and selling its own designs since 2008 — every piece is stamped with our H logo.
Is it sustainable?
Yes. Pieces are made from sustainable materials with no petroleum-based chemicals, offcuts are reused to fill natural checks, and orders ship in recyclable cardboard — cradle-to-grave by design.
Does it arrive assembled, and how fast does it ship?
Most pieces are a single solid-wood form with no assembly (benches arrive ready to use). In-stock items ship from Wisconsin, typically in 3–5 business days.
How do I care for it?
Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Once or twice a year, refresh the finish with a little natural wood oil to keep the grain rich.
